Around Town
If you are planning for an extended stay in Spain and want to explore a bit, keep scrolling for a list of our recommended activities, sites to see, and things to do nearby to Hostal De La Gavina and throughout the Costa Brava Region.
On the way to La Gavina
If you opt to rent a car to explore some of the Costa Brava region, a great halfway town between Barcelona and S’Agaró where the wedding will take place, is a coastal town called Tossa De Mar. There are lots of restaurants, shops and cafes along the coastline here. There is also a beautiful historic castle that was built in 1187. (Get tickets to the castle here). From Tossa De Mar, we recommend taking a road called GI-682. It is very curvy and on the edge of the cliffs over looking the Mediterranean Sea. This is one of the most scenic stretches of drivable coastline in all of Spain with several pull-offs to take in the views. The commute time from Tossa De Mar to La Gavina is around 1 hour.

Additional Costa Brava Towns to Explore
Girona
Girona is a city beside the River Onyar. It’s known for its medieval architecture, walled Old Quarter (Barri Vell) and the Roman remains of the Força Vella fortress. Landscaped gardens line the Passeig Arqueològic, a walkway following the Old Quarter’s medieval walls, which include watchtowers with sweeping views. The Mas Molla Winery is also located nearby and makes for a relaxing afternoon.
Begur
Begur is a picturesque town with cobblestone streets, fairy lit cafes, an old cathedral and a fort atop a hill which offers phenomenal views. This town is a favorite of the locals because its not as overpopulated with tourism. If you are looking to spend a night or two here, we recommend staying at either Hotel La Bionda or Hotel Aiguaclara.
Cadaqués
Cadaqués is one of the most charming towns in the Costa Brava region. There are sidewalks along the shoreline with gelato shops, amazing seafood restaurants and plenty of shopping. Cadaqués, while still in Spain, is inching you closer to the French border, so you will notice that food options as well as fashion and accents are a beautiful cultural blend of French and Spanish influences. Famous artists such as Picasso and Dali would vacation here for inspiration.
Local Recommendations
Locals from Spain and the Costa Brava region most often recommend the towns of Begur, Cadaqués, Calella de Palafrugell and Tamariu for the most authentic Spanish experience.
